There are a lot of  fashion blogs already out there on othe internet, and most of my students ask me    "How Do I Stand Out From All The Other Bloggers?"   Everyone and their mom, knows how to create a blog, but many of them have no clue how to market their blog to others.

What's Your Personal Branding Story

I remember my first business, I was home on summer break from college, trying to make enough money for next semester's tuition (To the right: Is a photo of me and my sorority sister - before leaving for summer break). My plan was to work my usual summer job and also sell my customize wearable art.

I worked my summer job during the day, created art at night and tried selling my wearable art during the weekends. I didn't make as much money as I hoped- not enough to pay for tuition. After many attempts of trying out different business ventures, and never really making enough money as I hope.

I needed help, I needed a mentor! My college education wasn't enough - so I found a business- marketing coach. What she taught me was ...
1. Locate and sell to a specific target market
2. Connect with people more often and
3. Develop a marketing plan before you actually start to sell

Within the first couple of months of coaching I saw a major difference in my sales. I can NOW claim, that I'm a lot better at identifying my target market, articulating my skill sets, and marketing myself to get more eyes on what I do. You too can become better at marketing yourself in a lot less time than me. Learn more here.

Consider this month as your summer start-over. Just as January and September signal new beginnings in the year, so does June.

Today I want to share with you " What's Your  Personal Branding Story" which will  get you started on creating a branding story that will resonate with your blogging followers.

While your product and services are important components to your business success it's amazing how important your story is also. People want to buy from those that they know, like and trust, and your story is how they will connect with you. A lot of entrepreneurs under estimate how important their "about us" page is, or how important the story of their why is.
To develop your story answer the question, "How did you get started, why do you do what you do and where are you going?"

Clients love to connect with personal brands they trust via social media. They love to hear stories about not only you but about other clients who are using your products and services successfully. They'll share the stories with their friends and family, thus helping expand your brand through story telling.

To tell a good story you'll need to dive deeply into your why. Why does your business exist? Why are you passionate about your product or service?
If you're not sure how to develop your story, you can use distribute surveys or brainstorm with current clients or friends and ask them why they buy from you.

Fill out your profiles on the "About Me" area of your websites, blogs and social media. If you write for other sites ensure that your author's bio is succinct in telling your story. Create videos that tell your story. Even your co-workers can help tell your story via their LinkedIn.com profiles, or social media profiles that mention you and why they buy your services or products.

Place photos of your products or important components of client testimonials that showcase all the positives of your services on your website and social media sites in a prominent location. People want to know what is behind the products and services in a way that shows them that you care, and that you are dedicated to solving their problems. That's right, all successful products and services solve a problem. If you're not sure what problem you solve, it's time to research and figure it out.

Your social media sites is a terrific place to start talking about your why for being. Create status updates often and be open and transparent in your discussion of why you exist. If you've done your home work, your story will resonate with your clients and potential clients and make them proud to do business with you.

Remember, branding is more than a logo or pretty picture. It's really about the perception your target audience has about your business' culture. It's a compilation of your name, logos, tag line, and mission statement. Without knowing your story and conveying a compelling story to the marketplace, many people will miss out on enjoying your products and services.

Branding You: Join the Conversation

Social media offers a tremendous opportunity to brand you and what you do. Back in the day, we only had TV, Radio, Newspapers, Billboards and the networking event. Today, the world is truly open for anyone who see the value in using technology to expand their reach.

The best way to enjoy the advantages of what social media can offer is to realize exactly what you can do with social media. I’m still saying you have to attend local events but never misjudge the power of being part of the online conversation about your industry.

You Can Use Social Media to:

  • Analysis your market
  • Network
  • Share valuable information
  • Announce your new products and services
  • Tell people about your passion and mission
  • Expand your brand
Before joining the conversation, create full and compelling social media profiles. Don't reinvent the wheel use what you already have- company bio, business card information or resume. You've already developed some type of brand offline, and that personal brand should stay the same. The idea is to expand your personal brand, not replace it. While your brand is more than just your photo, there is no point in confusing your audience. You want current clients who can find you on social media sites so that they can share you with others and they will if they recognize you immediately.

Here Are a Few Ways to Make This Happen:

YouTube -- Create compelling video about how to use your products and services. Ask your clients/customers to create YouTube videos describing how they used your product or service and what kind of success they enjoyed due to it. This type of social media will expand your brand in many ways and could even go viral.

Twitter -- Share new content with your followers, comment on their shares, and participate in their conversations. Share coupons, sales, brand news, answer questions, share how-to's and interviews that you've done. Consumers love getting coupons and freebies, so ensure that you offer them.

Facebook -- Use Facebook to build a community and contribute daily. Answer questions professionally, and interact with others in your community. It's important to give your Facebook friends a reason to talk about you.

LinkedIn -- This social media site - is a more serious business version of Facebook in which you can create either a business profile or a personal profile. Once you do, you can ask for recommendations and endorsements from people you have worked with in the past.

On any of the popular social media avenues today it's possible to search keywords that describe your audience, product or service including competitors to keep up with what is happening in your industry. It doesn't matter if you have an online business or offline business using social media to further your personal brand is an essential component of any branding effort today.

Use Facebook & Instagram to Build a Brand

I use Facebook a lot to keep in contact with my family and friends. But in the last 2 years of building my brand - I started strategically planning ways to market myself as an expert in my niche.  Facebook allowd me to build a large audience around the things I love and care about, such as fashion, internet marketing, speaking, and so much more.

When I launched my first book, I used Facebook as a spring board to share my book progress. I can only say - this played a major part and helping me take my book to the Best seller list.

Instagram is a new venture for me. I currently only have about 200 followers. This might seem like a lot to some, but actually it's a very low number compared to the millions of people who use instagram daily.

Traffic is picking up and I strongly believe it's because I've started posted a lot more images of myself and what I am wearing.  I've seen a lot of fashion bloggers do this - although I don't consider myself a fashion blogger, I do have simliar interest in showcasing my love for fashion and style.

Your appearance is key to building a lasting personal brand. I was taught at a very young age, that you should always to try to look your best - " You just don't know who might see you".

Talk with you later,

Personal Branding Online - It's Not About the Picture Anymore

Many of us think about branding in terms of logos, pictures and other graphics that are on our letterhead, business cards and websites. But today, it's so much more than a picture.

Branding is about an attitude, and a feeling that is conveyed by the story you tell consumers about your business that elicits enough feelings of trust from the buyer that they happily open their wallet and spend money on your product or service. Learning how to market yourself and services you need to answer the following questions:
  • How did you get started?
  • Why did you get started?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What is your product or service?
  • What makes your offerings unique?
  • Where do you see your business going?
Sure, you do need to choose your logo, general colors of your marketing collateral, website graphics and so forth, but it's more important to answer the above questions ensuring that the themes you use represent accurately the above. You should be able to answer these questions effortlessly to anyone who asks. In addition, any marketing that you do should further the ideas that the answers provided. By being consistent through all your marketing efforts you will expand your brand.

Once you answer the questions you can then use your answers to assist you in creating a mission statement and an appropriate tag line. Your mission statement and tag line can help you define yourself even further in terms of expressing to your future customers or clients who you are and what you stand for, as well as what you do. Not only will the answers, and the resulting mission statement and tag line help your clients understand you, they will help you stick to your goals.

Knowing your mission, your reason for being, will help spread awareness about your brand to your target audience. A mission statement provides focus for every area of your business from A to Z. You have to remember that branding is a process that evolves and develops over time and consistency and persistence is an imperative component to that process. Knowing your why enough to create an effective mission statement will take your business to the next level.

Branding is about getting clear concerning your business so that you can be laser focused on every aspect of your company from ensuring you are marketing to your ideal client, creating products and services for your ideal client, and expressing what your business stands for to clients, contractors and employees. The mission statement is an expression of your brand, written in a clear and concise way that helps not only your customers understand your business focus but you and your business partners too.
You should be living your mission statement every single day, which will in effect promote your brand. Live your mission on social media. Live your mission on your website. Live your mission in all your marketing collateral, products and services. Yes, part of that is knowing which graphics to include that expresses your brand, but as you see branding is so much more than a pretty picture.

See you next week,
Alease
